Start of Semester
Please answer each survey question in a few thoughtful sentences.
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I envision using art in my elementary classroom so that I can get my students thinking creatively along with our particular units and lessons. I hope to find crafts and activities that are arts-based that go hand-in-hand with my lessons. I think that using art will help broaden the way some students think and will give them another way of thinking about a particular unit.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
I am a huge fan of integrated learning and integration because it's a way to not only blend ideas and subjects, but a way for students to be exposed to multiple subject areas. Some teachers aren't able to properly integrate arts with common core subjects so I hope to focus a lot on ways in which teachers can effectively integrate everything together.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I would say that I would be a 4 for my comfort level in making art. I have always had an artsy-side as a child and throughout high school. I won several art awards throughout school and really enjoyed creating different things. I find it very fun to build, create, draw, and model things, especially children-related things. One of my favorite things that my host teacher let me help her with was bulletin boards!
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
This is difficult, but I would say that I am roughly a 2 1/2 for my comfort level in analyzing and talking about at. I don't necessarily find it hard or troublesome to talk about art but I don't really enjoy art history so that might be why I lowered my rating for this question. I think it will be interesting and I hope to raise my comfort level this semester because children's art is really important to understand.

End of Semester
Now that you have [almost] completed the course, please answer each survey question once more in a few thoughtful sentences.
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I envision using art in my classroom as a form of integrating different subjects together. Art is a form of integration in itself because there are many types and forms of art, as well as meanings and purposes which allows teachers to effectively integrate art forms and ideas to the core subject areas. I plan to use art to spark creativity and individuality within my classroom and provide a way for students to express themselves.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
I have learned so much about integrated learning this semester! Integration isn't as hard and scary as it seemed at the beginning of the semester and it's more functional for the teacher to reach out to all students. All standards and subject areas correspond with one another and integration allows for teachers to build that bridge for students.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I would give myself a 5-rating because I am more comfortable with different mediums and am not afraid to try new things. I think this is important because students look for the teacher as a guide and model and I wasn't so sure that I would be comfortable making and showing off my artwork. I have already started a physical portfolio with all of my studio pieces and plan to use them in the classroom somehow.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I am definitely more comfortable at a 5-rating for analyzing and talking about art. Taking part in VTS several times has opened up my eyes and knowledge when it comes to analyzing art. I think VTS is a great model to use for students of all ages because they get to hear from their peers and see things they may not have noticed before. Each time we did VTS in our class, I enjoyed sitting back and listening to my classmates analyze and discuss the art pieces.
